Cavaco chord dictionary6/13/2023 Electric guitars are easy to learn on, as the bridge is easily adjustable, but for an acoustic style instrument, I felt more comfortable paying someone who has years of experience.Ī word about guitar shops – my local guitar shop is a small store that has been in business forever, and has very knowledgeable staff. You can setup your instrument yourself, but it is somewhat of an art – how much to adjust, getting the action low without buzzing, and allowing the wood to acclimate. Unless you’re buying your instrument from a physical shop, I would definitely include the cost of a setup in your budget. I don’t know how cavaquinhos ship in Brazil, but it seems guitars in the US come with a high action, and it’s up to the player to adjust it down. His advice was that a cheaper instrument could’ve had much worse problems – uneven frets, bowed neck, that would be more difficult to repair. I talked to the guitar technician about how I was a little annoyed that an expensive instrument still needed work done, as I might as well get a cheaper one. Now, they require much less effort to press, and the intonation problems are gone. They also changed the strings – I had purchased a set online, so that was no added cost.īefore, I had to press relatively hard to cleanly fret notes, and found myself gritting my teeth at times. I brought my cavaquinho to my local guitar shop for setup – they charged me $60, which included fret polishing, fretboard oiling, and sanding the underside of the bridge to bring the strings down to the proper height. “Action” refers to how the instrument physically plays, and in particular the height of the strings above the fretboard. This is often caused by action that is too high. In my case, an open string would be in tune, but the octave up (12th fret) was very noticeably sharp. For those unfamiliar with fretted string instruments, intonation refers to the accuracy of the pitch, particularly when the higher frets are played. My instrument had some very bad intonation problems. Although mine was a “factory demo,” I believe this issue may be pretty universal. I originally thought that a pricey instrument would come ready to play out of the box – I was apparently mistaken. I remember seeing Adam Savage, of Mythbusters, talking at a live show about his realization that the ability to become mediocre at many skills is, in itself, a valuable skill.įor those of you just stumbling on my site, thank you for visiting! I hope the few posts I’ve made over the years are helpful, and wish you the best of luck in your Cavaquinho endeavors. I don’t believe it’s negative trait to try new things, even if it doesn’t lead to a lifelong commitment. I’ve picked up and dropped many hobbies, activities, instruments, and projects in life – such is my nature, and that of many other “jack of all trades” types. I feel pretty good about it, given that most of the things we tend to buy in life depreciate horribly. It probably could’ve sold for more, but I felt it was a fair price. I sold it for $350, which is only $60 less than I purchased it for 4 years ago. I initially made a posting on Craigslist, but was contacted by someone out of state to purchase, so I threw it up on Ebay to facilitate the transaction. It’s been a long time coming, but I just hadn’t been practicing or playing enough to justify keeping my instrument around.

Alton brown sauerbraten recipe6/13/2023 Add gingersnap powder to the cooking pan and pour degreased gravy and pureed vegetables over. Strain gravy skim fat off of liquid gravy (I like to leave a little for flavor). (Add more marinade as it cooks to keep the liquid level about the same.) How long will depend on the cut of meat and the strength of the simmer the meat should be tender but not falling apart. Cover and simmer over very low heat for 3 ½ -5 hours. Pour in marinade so that it covers about one third of the meat. When browned, place chopped onion and carrot under the meat. Dust meat with flour and brown in Dutch oven. Remove meat from marinade and dry surface with paper towels. Stir and turn meat at least once a day more often if marinating for the shorter amount of time. Marinate in fridge for a minimum of 2 days and for up to 5 days. If meat is not covered by ½ or 2/3 add some more wine and vinegar (at a 50:50 ratio). Bring liquid marinade ingredients to a brief boil then let cool to RT and pour over meat. Rub non-liquid marinade ingredients onto the meat. The added lemon, orange and ginger root are a bit different than some traditional recipes but I they've worked pretty well.ĥ lb chunk of stewing beef (brisket or blade chuck are best but leaner bottom round will work)Ģ quarter-sized pieces of fresh ginger rootģ-4 healthy sprigs of thyme or 2 tsp dried unlike the Alton Brown version there is no sugar added. Here is a recipe I've made a few times which is adapted from one given in 'Yankee New England Cookbook" by Leslie Land. I've made a German pot roast with bear and Belgian carbonnade but I wouldn't have thought of beer and vinegar together. Slice the meat and serve with the sauce. The beer and vinegar pot roast sounds interesting. Strain the sauce through a fine mesh sieve to remove any lumps.Whisk in the gingersnaps and cook until thickened, stirring occasionally.

Rightfont illustrator font plug in6/13/2023 Once you have done this, you will need to click ‘change’ and then ‘done’. The first thing that you need to do is to choose the font that you want to substitute. In order to fix the problem, you will need to replace the missing fonts with fonts that already exist on your computer. When you first open the file, the missing area will be highlighted in pink and you will typically see a pop up box that highlights the missing fonts and tells you exactly what they are. Whether this is your reason or it is something else entirely, you are going to need to replace the font. This could be due to the fact that you are working on this project with someone else that has different fonts installed on their computer, which might not work on yours. If you are working on a project and you need to replace the font that is being used, then you will need to find out how to do so. No matter what you are trying to create, there will be the perfect font out there just waiting to be used, and we are going to do our best to help you to find it. To help you with this, we are going to tell you exactly how to change the font in Illustrator, so you can make your new project shine. Your font is one of the things that people will notice first about your project, so it is really important to get it right. If you have been looking at examples of other people’s work and fallen in love with their creative use of fonts, then you might be wondering how you can change yours to match your design. The font that you use will make a statement, and fonts can be just as powerful as the other design elements that you are going to include. The last thing that you want to do is use a standard Comic Sans or Times New Roman if you are trying to create something unique, and default fonts never typically work the best for the most stylish of designs. Using the right font when you are creating any new project will always make a huge difference to your overall design.

Trello synqion6/13/2023 When you're planning a birthday party (virtual or in-person), there's a lot to do: buy decorations, send invitations, plan a menu, order a cake, and more. Trello helps you plan and throw the ultimate birthday (image via Trello) Plan household chores and spring cleanings My method of success was to create a (somewhat organized) Trello board to help structure both the format of the book I was writing, and also my day-to-day schedule-because holding yourself accountable to meet your writing deadlines is an entire project in itself. Rani Shah, on the other hand, used Trello to complete her non-fiction book by taking a more granular approach to her everyday tasks. You can see examples of relevant Trello boards here. For example, Mackenzie Kincaid uses Trello to develop book ideas, track submissions, and explore short story markets by genre. There are several ways you can get a better handle on your writing. People still do use paper index cards, but Trello can be used the same way-only it's digital, searchable, and easily shareable. If you go into the Trello board's calendar view (enable it by opening your board's menu, selecting Power-Ups, and clicking the Add button on the Calendar card), you can then see your meal plan by week or month:įrom short stories to novels, plan out your writing in Trello (image via Word Wielders)īack before there were tools like Trello, both budding and experienced authors used index cards to organize their ideas, plot changes, character notes, and more into flexible lists. Then, to create a meal plan, simply add a date to the recipe card you want to make. Just click on the Show Menu link at the top right of any Trello board, click More, and then choose Copy board. Both are public, so you can copy them to your own account. Kenji López-Alt's recipes board and Mark Bittman's recipes board. Trello makes it simple to both organize your favorite recipes and plan out a week's worth-or even months' worth-of meals.Ĭreate a recipe board where you can customize each card with a photo of the dish, a checklist of ingredients, and cooking instructions. Meal planning is the key to avoiding the stress of thinking "What's for dinner?" and with a meal plan, you'll save both time and money. I don't know about you, but the most trying part of my day is usually when dinnertime is approaching and I have no idea what I'm going to cook. Trello makes meal planning easy (image via Trello) Ross Rojek, CTO of GoLocalApps, has a board set up where he organizes tasks based on the time each takes. That makes it a perfect tool for planning what to do next. Unlike traditional to-do apps, with Trello you can collect your tasks into lists while still getting a bird's eye view of your entire day. Having these tasks all in one place is essential to getting things done. Your days are filled with all sorts of to-dos for all areas of your life. If you're wondering what else you can use Trello for besides managing work projects, take a look at these inspiring example boards and suggestions. Once you see some examples of the many different ways to use Trello, you might too. Spolsky says he uses about 30 Trello boards regularly with everyone in his life. In fact Trello is for anything where you want to maintain a list of lists with a group of people. For developing software the agile way." Yeah, it's that, but it's also for planning a wedding, for making a list of potential vacation spots to share with your family, for keeping track of applicants to open job positions, and for a billion other things. Some people saw Trello and said, "oh, it's Kanban boards. As Trello co-founder and Stack Overflow CEO Joel Spolsky explains:

Alternative to iced audio audiofinder6/13/2023 The big plus of both applications is the ability to import only a selection of an audio file as a region into Pro Tools.īoth applications support all the regular suspects when it comes to audio file formats, though you will need to install additional codecs to support some formats. Simply highlight over the section you want in the waveform viewer, hit the respective Spot button, and just that section will end up in your Pro Tools Session, positioned at the cursor. With both these applications, you can search for and audition the file, then edit a small selection and import that straight into the Pro Tools timeline where you've left the cursor. I often want to use a small section of a long file, and even though I have all my sound effects catalogued in Digibase Pro, it's often a real pain to have to import a long file, find somewhere to park it to trim it down, and then move the trimmed version into the correct place. The real bonus of both these applications is the ability to import only a small part of the selected file. AudioFinder, meanwhile, can preview files at any pitch via MIDI or the built-in keyboard, so you can hear a sample at different pitches using the keyboard. This is really useful when you're auditioning long speech files, as even at 2x speed you can still understand what is being said. Snapper can play files using varispeed, either at constant pitch or true varispeed as set in the Preferences. Likewise, AudioFinder lets you drag the file into the Pro Tools window, or click on a Target icon in the button bar above the waveform to import the selection into Pro Tools at the cursor position. When you've found the file you want in Snapper, you either just drag the selected file straight into Pro Tools, use the Spot feature to snap it right to your waiting Pro Tools cursor, or hit a separate button to import it into the Pro Tools Region List (which Snapper call the Bin). Iced Audio's AudioFinder provides similar functionality to Snapper, but is more oriented towards management of musical samples than sound effects or dialogue.īoth have an auto-play feature, whereby they will start playing back a file as soon as you select it in the Finder alternatively, you can audition a selected file by either hitting the space bar or double-clicking on the waveform. Both also have the option to separate what appears in the window from the Finder selection: Snapper has a 'freeze' option, which leaves the waveform display fixed on a particular file, while AudioFinder's window can be separated from any Finder window. The AudioFinder window can be free to float or attached to the main Finder window. Snapper's window appears attached to the Finder window as long as a file containing audio is selected, but fades away if you select any non-audio file. These windows display a waveform for any selected file that contains audio, allow you to audition it from the Finder and import init to Pro Tools. You can, of course, create Digibase Catalogues - but do these alternatives bring anything new to the table or do things better? Let's see….īoth Snapper, from AudioEase, and AudioFinder, from Iced Audio, add their own windows to Apple's Finder window. This month, we're going to look at a couple of (Mac-only) 'helper' applications that make it easier to manage and audition your samples and audio files, and smooth the process of importing them into Pro Tools. You'd like to use a particular sample or drum loop that's somewhere on your system - but where is it? You wade through different folders looking for it then, even when you do find it, you have to import it into Pro Tools, place it on the timeline and edit it before you can actually do anything creative. For those with a large collection of audio files to manage, we look at two applications that bridge the gap between Pro Tools and the Mac's Finder.ĪudioEase's Snapper works with the Mac Finder to help track down and audition audio files. |
