Inssider free6/10/2023 All you need to do is visit the download pagefor the software and once you’re in it, simply download and install it on your computer. Since InSSIDer is a free software, installing it is very simple, you don’t need to go into a payment page just to get it downloaded. If you are using a computer that runs on a Windows operating system, chances are you would only find a few tools that allow this special capability and most of them are for sale but we did some research for a free one which we can share in this tutorial and luckily, we found the best one which is called InSSIDer! There are plenty of tools that ITand networking experts use which are available for free but the problem is they only work for Linux operating systems. While it is impossible to view wireless networks with hidden SSIDs using the “Network” screen alone in your Windows 8.1 computer, it can easily become possible with the help of free tools available over the Internet. Though your Windows 8.1 operating system can’t do this by itself, there are a few available tools that can help you view even the hidden networks nearby. They are still actually detected however, since their SSIDs are hidden, they don’t display at all on the list but thankfully, there’s a way to view all available networks near your area. Only the ones that broadcast their SSIDs or also known as Network name show on the available networks list that appears when the Network Status indicator icon on the system tray is clicked but this doesn’t mean that these hidden networks are not detected. Hidden networks never appear in the list of available networks. To be clear, an RSSI value of -35 is a stronger signal than -75.Previously, we’ve shown the steps involved in connecting to a hidden wireless network on your Windows 8.1 computer but that only works if you know the network administrator of the hidden network from whom you can ask the network security details from. Since the RSSI numbers are negative, this is not mathematically correct. *Outside the US, there are a few more available channels. InSSIDer is actively maintained and highly recommended. Signal strength too needs translating, it's called RSSI. WPA security is reported as WPA-TKIP, which again is technically more accurate. If you are interested in security and encryption then you need to know that what inSSIDer calls "RSNA-CCMP" is Latin for WPA2 with AES encryption - the most secure option available. It can also display the Mac address of the router. While usually not necessary for debugging purposes, I love the fact that inSSIDer shows the manufacturer of each router that it finds. In the graph below, you can see that the red and green networks have the strongest signal, but that the red network provides a much more consistent signal. By default it updates the signal strength measurement every second, who knows how often Windows updates the displayed number of signal strength bars.Īnd, there is no need to watch the signal strength every second, inSSIDer graphs it, by network, over time. Who could have made such a basic mistake? According to the manager of the Bed and Breakfast, the Geek Squad set up the Wi-Fi networks.Īnother nice thing about inSSIDer is that it shows signal strength as a number rather than bars.
